Home Study Tips:

• Read the question carefully - sometimes it is easier to read the last statement of the question, then go back and read the question from the beginning. Feel free to underline key terms in the question.
• When you are creating a strategy to solve the question, ask yourself if there is a specific math skill that you need to use in your strategy.
• Apply your strategy to the problem to arrive at an answer. Be sure to include your process in your solution - with your process recorded you can see where you went wrong (learn from your mistakes !!). If your solution is correct, you have a great example of how to answer that type of question.
• Does the answer seem reasonable? If it does not try a different approach, ask a neighbour, go to extra math help and ask your teacher, ask your uncle Fred....ASK! Do not use 'giving up' as an option - its only Math, how bad can it be!

Math 20-1 - we looked into questions that require the sum of a sequence (series). The investigation included transitioning from a question involving numbers to the formula for the sum of a series involving variables. Assigned L4; #1 - 4

Math 20-2 (am/pm) - finding the area/probability between 2 z scores was the job for today. There is one method involving the z-0score tables and another using the graphing calulator - both are excellent, but only one really shows the math behind the answer. Assigned L4; # 1 - 5.

Math 20-3 - hand out 4.1 is late.

Math 20-1 - we investigated the application of the general term in problem solving scenerios. Assigned L3; # 1 - 4.

Math 20-2 - if calculating the standard deviation wasn't enough fun...welcome to the calculation of the z score! Assigned L3; # 1 - 9.

Math 20-3 - we did a quick look at how to read a graph (emphasis on the circle graph since it is a bit more demanding). Hand out 4.1 should now be complete and handed in.

Math 20-1 - there will be a short chapter test on Absolute Value and recoprical functions tomorrow. We did a small review of the material today. We also began work on arithmetic sequences, including finding the general term. Assigned L2; # 1cdf, 3, 4, 6. Test tomorrow.

Math 20-2 (am/pm) - after a brief introduction on measures of central tendency, we looked into dispersion of data and began work on the standard deviation. We examined how it is calculated using the formula (sigma and the sum symbol were used) and also the graphing calculator. Assigned L2; # 1 - 8.

Math 20-3 - last chapter of the semester!!. We reviewed the criteria for various graphs and the type of data each graph uses. Assigned hand out 4.1.

Fri. Nov 25/22 - we examined mistakes made on the Factoring and Quadratics tests today. Students will write a Unit Test based on facoring and quadratics on Thursday of next week. Since we completed the chapter on Rational Expressions and Equations yesterday, there will be a chapter test on Rationals on Monday of next week. No new homework assigned. Tests Monday and Thursday.

Math 20-2 (am) - students wrote a Chapter Test on Measurement today. Since the test was a bit long, 30 minutes will be given on Monday for students to complete the test. No new homework assigned.

Math 20-1 - today we looked into solving rational equations algebraically. We used 2 methods, cross mutilplication and clearing the denominators using the LCM. Assigned L7; #  2, 3bdf, 4.

Math 20-2 (am/pm) - we worked hard today to get through the concept of using ASF to calculate the new area of a transformed original area. We went on to use the same idea to calculate new vs original volume using LSF. Assigned L7; # 1 - 7.

Math 20-3 - hand out 1.4 is due tomorrow. There will be a chapter test on Friday.

Math 20-2 (am/pm) - we continued on with measurement today, looking into how to calculate scale factor and how it can help us determine reductions and enlargements. Assigned L4; # 1 - 9.

Math 20-3 - we continued wotking on hand out 1.3. We started the class with a quick recap as to where we are and what we have done so far in the chapter. Hand out 1.3 will be due at the end of class on Monday.

Math 20-1 - students were given an extra 15 minutes to complete yesterday's test. We also started Rational Expressions and Equations today. Our first task was to draw a comparison between the concepts surrounding fractions to what we have to do to simplify a rational expression. Assigned L1; # 3 - 5 and L2; # 3 - 5.

Math 20-2 (am/pm) - rates of change were discussed today. This concepts piggybacks off of what students did last year in Linear Equations - slope is rate of change. Assigned L3; # 1 - 6

Math 20-3 - students are now getting questions involving conversions with area. Assigned hand out 1.3.

Math 20-2 (am/pm) - we went over any questions students had regarding L1 and L2. It is important to stay on top of the factoring methods as they will be applied as the lessons continue. Assigned L3; # 2 - 8.

Math 20-3 - we watched a video on how shapes and scale work in actual cases. No new homework assigned.

Math 20-2 (am/pm) - we reviewed some of the methods of factoring from G10 - for some students it was like they had never seen it before. We looked at finding the greatest common factor (GCF), factoring by inspection, factoring difference of squares and decomposition. Assigned L1; # 9 - 13, and L2; # 3 - 7.

Math 20-1 - students are wrapping up the remains of radical equations. We will be in a position to test the Quadratics Chapter next wek...but let's get the Unit Test (Radicals+Trig) out of the way first. There will be a Unit Test on Tuesday of next week on radicals and trig - a chapter test on quadratics will follow on Thursday of next week. Today the assignment was: L7; # 1 - 6.

Math 20-3 - we continued to work on creating orthographic diagrams from isometric diagrams - sounds like Art class but there is scale involved so it's still about the Math. Assigned handout 2.2.

Math 20-1 - our work in quadratics has, strangely enough, led us back to radicals. We looked for ways to solve radical equations both graphically and algebraically. Assigned L6: #1, 4. Unit Test on Thursday (Radicals + Trig).

Math 20-2 (am/pm) - we finishing up on our look into quadratics. We worked on another lesson involving problem solving. Assigned L6; ALL. There will be a UniT Test on Thursday (Radicals + Trig). Sorry for the changes to the date of this test.

Math 20-3 - we are starting to look into other points of view - orthographic view was discussed today. Assigned hand out 2.2.

Math 20-1 - we are starting the word problem portion of the chapter now that the "skills" section is complete. Assigned L5; # 1aei, 2adf, 3ae, 4b, 5 7, 9. There will be a Chapter Test (Quadratics) on Thursday and a Unit Test ( Trig and Radicals) on Tuesday of next week.

Math 20-2 (am/pm) - we revisited some of the concepts from L5 - this is where we put context into the characteristics like x-intercepts and vertices, etc. Assigned L5; ALL. There will be a Unit Test (Radicals & Trig) on Thursday of this week.

Math 20-1 - we continued with other variations of factoring involving long strings of polynomial factors arising from degree 4 or higher polynomials. Students are also working on factoring polynomials with binomial bases using a replacement method (A=). Assigned L4; # 1acegikmo, 2, 3ace, 4ace, 5abc, 6, 7.

Math 20-2 (am/pm) - reinforcing the information each of the 3 forms of a quadratic function provides, we began work on word problems which now allows us to see the difference context makes to how/why information is used. Assigned L5; ALL.

Math 20-3 - students are now working on hand out 2.1. This hand out requires they look at scale factor and it's uses. Assigned hand out 2.1.

Math 20-2 (am) - we continued working on our understanding of quadratic equations and their characteristics. The use of the graphing calculator has allowed us to bypass some of the algebraic methods. We will continue this exploration for a few more days. Assigned L2; # 6 - 15

Math 20-2 (pm) - since we just scratched the surface of quadratics and some of the ig ideas they entail (tables, graphs, plotted points, characteristics), we continued our look into graphing the equations/functions and finding the characteristics that make quadratics unique. Assigned L2; # 1 - 5.

Math 20-3 - students continue dworking on rates of change and how they relate to the slope. Assigned and out 6.3.

Math 20-1 - we spent the entire class revisiting the concepts of direction and distance together. No new homework assigned. There will be a Chapter Test on Thursday of this week.

Math 20-2 (am/pm) - students reviewed some of the more asic concepts surrounding equations and functions. The use of the graphing calculator is now required. Assigned L1; ALL questions.

Math 20-3 - we dealt with the use of the term "rate of change" as another way of using slope - the math is the same, the sources may differ. Assigned hand out 6.3.

Thurs. Sept 29/22

Math 20-1 - the use of direction was introduced today. We examined how to apply direction in the form of headings and bearings. Assigned L8; # 1 - 4, 6, 7.

Math 20-2 - students wrote a chapter test on trigonometry today. No new homework assigned. Parents/Guardians, I had students hand in their workbooks so I can assess a homeowrk mark for them.

Math 20-3 - today is the last day for hand out 6.2.  No new homeowrk assigned.

Wed. Sept 28/22

Math 20-1 - we looked into the gaps the sine law doesn't address and came up with cosine law as a way to fill those gaps (SSS, SAS). Assigned L6; # 1, 6, 9, 12.

Math 20-2 (am/pm) - in preparation for tomorrow's test on Trig, we went through questions from yesterday and spent most of the class on the Practice Test. Assigned Practice Test, test tomorrow.

Math 20-3 - we continued working on hand out 6.2, which relates trig and slope. No new homework assigned.

Tues. Sept 27/22

Math 20-1 - we began looking into non right triangles as a logical extension to our work on primary ratios and the unit circle. We investigated the sine law by finding the common quotients the sine of each angle has with its opposite side in a given triangle. Assigned L5; # 1, 2, 6, 7.

Math 20-2 (am/pm) - we investigated the application of direction (bearings) to our work with sine and cosine laws. Creating sufficient information that applies inside the triangle created is problematic - we revisited parallel lines and transversals to help us in this area. Assigned L5; # 6, 7, 12. There will be a test on Thursday (Trigonometry).

Math 20-3 - moving along with our work on slope - we looked into problems where we can express the slope as an angle instead of a ratio. This brought us back to some of the reasoning from trigonometry. Assigned hand out 6.2.

Mon. Sept 26/22

Math 20-1 - we completed the rest of Lesson 4 today. Assigned L4; # 10 - 18.

Math 20-2 (am/pm)- after a quick review of some concepts on circle geometry, we tackled problems wwhere we applied sine/cosine laws and right triangle trig in a circle geometry context. Assigned L5; # 1 - 4.

Math 20-3 - we continued working on calculating slope. Assigned hand out 6.1.

Fri. Sept 23/22

Math 20-1 - building on our knowledge of reference angles and the CAST rule, we looked at the unit circle and the special angles (30, 45, 60 0 and 90). Assigned L4; # 1 - 9.

Math 20 - 2 since the Sine Law does not accommodate for all combinations of info given, we introduced the Cosine Law which deals with SSS and SAS scenerios. Assigned L3; # 5 - 9.

Math 20-3 - let's talk about slope. We looked at the general idea behind slope and how we can quntify it so we can use math to solve problems. Assigned hand out 6.1.

Math 20-1 - we looked into the use of the CAST rule and how reference angles and rotation angles provide answers in 2 quadrants using the signs of their ratios. Assigned L3; # 1 - 9.

Math 20-2 (am/pm) -we continued our look into the logic behind the Sine Law and how we can use it to solve problems. Assigned L2; # 3 - 5, 7 - 9.

Math 20-2 (am/pm) - now that we have completed our review of right triangles, we are moving on to non right triangles. Our first investigation will be into the sine law - why/how does it work and how can we use it to solve problems? Assigned L2; # 1, 2.

Math 20-3 - students are now preraring for their first Chapter Test tomorrow. No new homework assigned - Test tomorrow.

Math 20-2 - we completed Lesson 1 of Trig by investigating the meaning, application and reasoning behind reference angles. Assigned L1; # 3 - 19.

Math 20-2 (am) - since classes have been shortened for Terry Fox, students were given the class to prepare for their Chapter Test (Radicals) tomorrow.

Math 20-2 (pm) - students worked on test preparation after the Terry Fox Run. Test tomorrow.

Math 20-3 - we are just about finished our look into Trig (right triangle only). Test TBA.

Math 20-1 - we began a new chapter (Trigonometry) by briefly looking in grade 10 trig (review). We then started with rotation angles in standard position. Assigned L1; #1, 2.

Math 20-2 (am/pm) - we reviewed the relationship between the ratio of given sides to the angle that is created in similar triangles. These are concepts from last year. Assigned L1; # 2 - 4, 6.

Math 20-3 - we continued to work on triangles that share a side length. Assigned hand out 7.3.

Math 20-2 am/pm - we looked into radical equations and how to determine the restrictions, graph and solve algebraically. Assigned  L5; # 1 , 4 - 6.

Math 20-1 - we have completed our study of radical operations. There is a chapter test on Radicals tomorrow. Assigned Practice Test.

Math 20-3 - we are continuing with our work on right triangle trigonometry. Students are now working on problem solving when 2 triangles share a side. Assigned 7.3.

Math 20-1 - we finished our work on radical operations today and will complete the chapter tomorrow with a Practice Test. Students will write a Chapter Test on Thursday based on lessons 1 - 5. Assigned L5; # 2, 4, 5, 11, 12.

Math 20-2 am - we finished our work on radical operations today and will complete the chapter tomorrow with an investigation into radical equations. Assigned L4; # 5, 7, 9, 10. A chapter test is tentatively scheduled for Monday of next week.

Math 20-2 pm - we completed our work on division today which brings to an end our work on radical operations. Assigned L4; # 2 - 5, 7. A chapter test is tentatively scheduled for Monday of next week.

Math 20-3 - students continued to work on hand out 7.2. This hand out builds on our initial work on relating ratios of sides lengths to specific angles of orientaion. No new homeowrk assigned.

Mon. Sept 12/22

Math 20-2 pm- today we investigated how to multiply radicals. Assigned L3: # 2ace, 3aceg, 4, 7, 13.

Math 20-3 - as we looked into the angles of elevation and depression, we also reviewed some of the classification of angles from parallel lines and transversals. Assigned hand out 7.2.

Math 20-2 am - the division of radicals is the opposite of multiplying....we looked into some of the cases where its just not as simple as it sounds. Assigned L4; # 1 - 4.

Math 20-1 - the last of the operation is now underway. We looked into the division of radicals with a monomial divisor. Tomorrow we will finish division by examining a binomial divisor. Assigned L 4; #1 - 4 (aceg only), then L4; # 5acegik, 7ac, 10, 16.
