On-Alert Drill
Just an update regarding the On-Alert protocol on Wednesday at 3:12 P.M. This protocol provided the space and time for paramedics to attend to another medical emergency. Thank you to all our Laker staff and students for doing a great job with the protocol and allowing a community member to receive medical support in a private and discrete manner. An On-Alert is one of our standard Hour Zero protocols where all staff and students are directed to their scheduled classroom and doors are locked, but teachers and students can continue to teach and learn. As always, I appreciate the patience, support, and care that everyone demonstrated for a fellow member of our community.
Updated Hat Policy
This year I surveyed our staff, students, and School Council, and the majority of our community indicated that it was time for a change to our school hat policy. In consultation with staff, students, and parents/guardians the following draft policy was created: Students are welcome to wear discrete headgear (e.g., hats, bandanas, toques, baseball caps and hoodies). For security reasons, head coverings must not cover the face; all individuals in a school must be identifiable. Insignias, logos, or text must be school appropriate and follow the dress code guidelines. Students must remove non-religious headgear during the playing of national anthems, formal ceremonies, assessments, when directed by staff, and/or when it is detrimental to the learning or safety of other students. Starting today, our community is going to trial this new policy. I will send out another survey for feedback in June before the policy is finalized and added to our School Handbook.
Happy Mother's day to all the Moms in our school community. Have a great weekend.
May 3, 2023

The Ultimate Frisbee Team won three games at the Cochrane High Tournament last weekend. Their next game is at the Rundle College Tournament on Saturday. Spring Football camp starts on May 29th, 2023. Comfort Cubby
CHHS’s Comfort Cubby is now open and available to students. This cabinet, which is in the Wellness Centre at the south end of the school, is home to some of the essentials of hygiene that students might need. Students can access menstrual products, and hygiene supplies like toothpaste, floss, shampoo, conditioner, etc. The Comfort Cubby aims to provide basic support to families and students who might be experiencing financial stress and may not be able to afford these essentials. Thank you to the Chestermere Food Bank and the Parent Council for their donations and support of this program.

Reimagine Body Positivity through Mindfulness & Creativity
Ms. Grimbly (currently doing her practicum for a Masters of School Counselling) and Ms. Sands (our Stepping Stones to Mental Health Success Coach) are planning a weekly lunchtime counselling group around body positivity. - Body Positivity
- Mindfulness
- Creative Expression
- Influence of Social Media
- Building Community
The program is based off of The Body Positive’s Be Body Positive group curriculum with some modifications and additions from Stepping Stones to Mental Health. Be Body Positive is an evidence-based program for “increasing self-compassion, reducing anxiety and depression, and fostering a positive relationship between one’s body, food, and exercise.” If you think your child could benefit from this program, please email the student’s first and last name to Ms.
Grimbly and Ms. Sands at kgrimbly@rockyview.ab.ca and ssands@rockyview.ab.ca before October 18th. Ms. Sands and/or Ms. Grimbly will be meeting with students on October 19th to gauge their interest in participating in the program, with a tentative start date of October 26th.
