Weekly Student and Parent/Guardian Messages

January 10, 2022

Hello Lakers and Parents/Guardians,

Happy New Year! It is my genuine hope that all our Laker students and guardians had a restful and safe Winter Break. I am glad that the weather is predicted to improve for the next little while. We are very happy to have our Lakers back in class today to finish the first semester. Here are some updates for the week:

AHS Daily Health Checklist
RVS continues to require all students, staff and visitors to use the Alberta Daily Health Checklist prior to coming to school. Please help support keeping our schools safe by reviewing the checklist each day and keeping children/students home when sick and accessing testing if symptoms develop.

Semester Two Schedules
All students/parents/guardians should check PowerSchool for their semester two student schedules. Any course change requests should be submitted to our School Counsellors immediately at the following link: https://forms.gle/pftud5HstmjZbbZi6.

RVS Message - Keeping our Schools Safe Places to Learn
We know families, just like all of us at RVS, are focused on keeping our students as safe as possible. RVS takes a balanced and thoughtful approach to supporting the overall well-being of our students while minimizing the transmission of COVID-19 in school. We align health measures in our schools with the recommendations and direction from provincial medical leaders and remain focused on supporting students’ overall social, emotional, physical, and learning needs. Some layers of protection we have in place to keep our schools' safe places include:

• promoting and facilitating hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette, masking, cohorting, and staying home when sick;

• utilizing enhanced ventilation with high density filters, maximizing fresh air and air return systems to increase air flow, ensuring systems are operating within manufacturers expectations, and replacing filters more often;

• ensuring regular cleaning and disinfection of high traffic/touch areas; and

• requiring proof of COVID-19 immunization or a negative COVID-19 test result for all adults who enter our schools or facilities (Administrative Procedure 173 - COVID-19 Hazard Reduction). This requirement does not apply to any RVS students.

Families play an essential role in keeping our schools safe places to learn and we respectively request that you keep your child/ren home if they are sick.

School Council
Our next School Council Meeting will be on Zoom on January 11, 2022, at 6:30 P.M. For parents and guardians interested in attending virtually, please email sstumborg@rockyview.ab.ca for the link.

Updated January 2022 Exam Period
January 20th and 21st, 2022: teachers may now have students attend school to complete CTS projects/modules and/or to complete curricular outcomes from any course requiring additional time.

Lunch Expectations
Students have multiple options to eat lunch. With appropriate clothing, a great option is to go outside and utilize the picnic tables and basketball courts. The North Social and surrounding classrooms, as well as the South Social and classrooms between South gym and Wellness are available for students who want a public, small group, or individual spots to eat. If students drive, they also have the option to leave campus for lunch. For safety, students are not permitted to eat or congregate in the student parking lots or cars.
